I would be absolutely heartbroken if I was approved, patiently waiting, suffering daily and suddenly the hope at the end of the tunnel is torn away. How awful.
You'd think that with the terrible end results of morbid obesity and diabeties that our provincial systems would be focusing on finding all sorts of solutions and making this particular solution more and more available (not less).

That sucks for them. I wonder if any doctor will step in to fill the void. Around here (US/Connecticut) seems like every doctor is jumping on the bariatric surgery bandwagon. Hopefully someone who is a place glutted with surgeons will see the opportunity and move up there.
